It is well and truly Autumn and with that has come chilly mornings and dark evenings, and if I’m honest I have been struggling to motivate myself, why would i want to go train my dog when Hot Chocolate and Halloween movies are on the cards?
I hope you find, solidarity in the fact I’m struggling to get out and train too so i wanted to share a couple things I’m doing to get back into those habits and staying consistent with training!
The biggest thing i have changed is making sessions shorter, not stressing about going out and spending 15 mins training! ill go for 5 mins then just chill with my dogs it doesn’t have to be long! Consistency sparks motivation so if you can recommit to 2-5 mins a day, your dog is learning and you are finding your spark.
secondly, i’ve taken the pressure off training and just dedicated time to spend with my dogs, hiking, chill walks and a little play they’re happy I’m happy.
finally, having others to keep me accountable, nobody wants to go to a field when its dusk and you can hardly see, dragging a friend along for the ride!
were all human and all struggle sometimes, and that’s ok but being consistent will spark motivation! and that’s what trains dogs, so lock in this winter i will be too!
